Kevin O’Leary says he’ll negotiate ‘economic union’ with Canada
Kevin O’Leary volunteered to head to Mar-a-Lago and negotiate an “economic union” with Canada instead of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“The most interesting proposal [President-elect Donald Trump] has put forward in the last 48 hours is Canada,” O’Leary told Fox Business on Thursday. “There’s 41 million Canadians, basically the population of California, sitting on the world’s largest amounts of all resources, including the most important: energy and water. Canadians over the holidays, the last two days, have been talking about this. They want to hear more.”
Under Trump, the United States and Canada have massive economic growth and prosperity opportunities through the Keystone XL Pipeline and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, according to O’Leary.
“What this could be is the beginning of an economic union,” he said. “Think about the power of combining the power of the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States, and putting all that resource up to the northern borders, where China and Russia are knocking on the door.”
O’Leary added that a secured border and common currency between the U.S. and Canada are just a few measures that would ensure a possible union.
“Figure out taxes across the board, get everything trading both ways, create a new, almost EU-like passport … I like this idea, and at least half of Canadians are interested,” according to O’Leary. “The problem is the government is collapsing in Canada right now. Nobody wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I don’t want him doing it for me.”
“So, I’m gonna go to Mar-a-Lago. I’ll start the narrative. Of the 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal,” he said.
Trump offered to help make Canada the 51st state in a Christmas message posted to Truth Social.
“Also, to Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose Citizens’ Taxes are far too high, but if Canada was to become our 51st State, their Taxes would be cut by more than 60%,” said the post. “[Their] businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World.”
