Kevin O’Leary warns Harris gifted 2024 nomination ‘by anointment’ could backfire – Washington Examiner

Kevin O’Leary, a star from⁣ *Shark Tank*, expressed concerns that ‍Vice President Kamala Harris’s nomination⁤ for the 2024 presidential election, which he views as being bestowed “by anointment,” could‍ backfire. In a discussion on *Fox News*, he drew parallels to the 2016 Democratic primary, where Hillary Clinton was similarly considered the presumptive nominee but ultimately lost. ⁣O’Leary stated that the Democratic Party may repeat this ‌pattern, ⁤potentially leading ‌to issues if Harris does not perform well ‌against former‌ President Donald Trump. While he noted that Harris’s chances in⁤ the ‍election stand at “50-50,” he emphasized the importance of a competitive selection process among candidates, suggesting that rushing into ⁤anointing Harris might be a strategic error for the Democrats. O’Leary also highlighted the significance of swing state voters,⁣ who prioritize policy in their decision-making.

Kevin O’Leary warns Harris gifted 2024 nomination ‘by anointment’ could backfire

Shark Tank star and international businessman Kevin O’Leary predicted a loss by Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 could create a ripple effect in the Democratic Party.

The Shark Tank co-host referenced how the Democratic Party “anointed” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee in 2016 because they believed she would win, which ultimately did not happen. He contended that Harris, like Clinton, won her nomination “by anointment,” and predicted that the Democratic Party will anoint one of their candidates again should Harris lose to former President Donald Trump this November.

“Now I’m not saying she’s going to lose, but I would have never let that happen if I’m selling a business,” O’Leary said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Saturday. “I tell my managers, ‘Never bring me one offer, bring me a process, show me there’s no other bid out there that I want, then I’ll make a decision if I’m selling.’ I was amazed they didn’t do that here, because Newsom made reference to it, there may have been other candidates, or she could’ve emerged much stronger. But they didn’t do that. That may prove to be a huge mistake.”

Regarding who will win the 2024 election, O’Leary said Harris’s chances are currently “50-50.”

O’Leary was also asked how Trump’s campaign could keep the 2024 election focused on policies, prompting the Shark Tank co-host to focus on the swing states. He contended voters in swing states care about policy “more than anything else,” and that these voters are “the people that are going to decide,” and the candidates would be wise to focus their attention on these voters.

Earlier this month, O’Leary argued that Harris must “distance herself” from President Joe Biden and Bidenomics, a term the president touted as his administration’s work on the economy. O’Leary described Bidenomics as “radioactive waste” for voters. He also stressed the need for Harris to clarify her policies and demonstrate her ability to do so without a teleprompter, as “that’s going to be where the tire hits the road.”

Polling data indicate Trump has 49% support among likely voters, a small lead over Harris, who is at 46%. The former president’s lead has narrowed slightly from the week prior when Harris was trailing Trump by 4%.
