Iowa poll reveals Trump leading primary field, Haley and DeSantis tied for second.
The Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll reveals that 43% of likely Republican caucus goers choose Trump as their top pick for president. In comparison, only 16% would choose either Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis. Trump leads both Haley and DeSantis by a significant 27% margin.
Trump’s support remains unwavering, with 63% of caucus goers who favor him stating that they have made up their minds. In contrast, only 30% and 26% of DeSantis and Haley supporters respectively have firmly decided. Furthermore, 87% of respondents who choose Trump as their first choice are “extremely or very enthusiastic” about caucusing for him.
“[DeSantis and Haley] are on shaky ground compared to the solid ground that Donald Trump stands on,” says pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., which conducted the Iowa Poll.
“If anything, he’s showing improvement.”
The poll also reveals that Trump is widening the gap between him and DeSantis among independent voters. In August, Trump led DeSantis by only 2% among independent caucus goers, but now he has a commanding lead of 33% to 12%.
Additionally, Trump is the preferred choice for first-time caucus goers, with 49% selecting him as their top pick.
