Rock appeared on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle Thursday to defend Trump’s song choice at his recent rallies. As a personal friend to the former president, Rock explained that Trump listens to a wide array of music, even while the two play golf. At his rallies, Trump has played the music of Guns N’ Roses, James Brown, Lionel Ritchie, Elvis Presley, and the Rolling Stones, among others.

“How cool is it that he’s jamming out to music, having a good time” Rock said. “And by the way, he’s playing a lot of artists that probably don’t agree with his politics, to put it lightly. But what does that say about him as a man? … Music should be universal for all of us to enjoy no matter what and get along in no matter what scenario, whether we are at a wedding dancing, whether we’re at a party, whether we’re on a golf course, or whatever. Music, whatever’s good, should just rise to the top, and we should celebrate it, especially American music.”
However, some artists have expressed their disapproval that their songs would be used at Trump’s rallies. After playing the song “Nothing Compares 2 U” by the late Sinead O’Connor at a rally, her estate issued a cease and desist letter to the Trump campaign. O’Connor was a vocal opponent of Trump before she died.

Similarly Rhianna threatened legal action after her song “Don’t Stop the Music” played at a 2018 rally. Adele said she didn’t want any of her music played at political events after Trump played her songs “Rolling in the Deep” and “Skyfall” at rallies in 2016. Even then-presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy faced a cease and desist letter from rapper Eminem to not play his music at his rallies.
Rock appeared on the program wearing a Budweiser hat, seemingly squashing the beef he had with Anheuser-Busch after transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s Instagram ad for Bud Light. The musician has since been seen drinking the beer and explained he didn’t “want to put any targets on people’s back.”
