After an exciting six-day adventure in Russia, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un bid farewell to explosive gifts from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Russian state media, a regional Russian governor presented Kim with five explosive “kamikaze” drones, a reconnaissance drone, and a bulletproof vest.
The departure follows Kim’s meeting with Putin to discuss the possibility of an arms deal, although no agreement has been reached yet, according to Moscow’s press.
The North Korean state news agency, KCNA, described the meeting as ”fervent and warm” between the two nations.
Experts suggest that the arms deal is a strategic move by Russia to replenish their weaponry as they continue their ongoing war with Ukraine.
Reports indicate that this trip marks Kim’s first official visit to another country since the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have shown one of our leading aircraft plants to the leader of North Korea,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said, according to The Associated Press. “We are seeing potential for cooperation in the aircraft-making and other industries, which is particularly acute for solving our countries’ task of achieving technological sovereignty.”
In addition, North Korean media claims that the Kremlin has accepted an invitation to visit North Korea in the future, although Putin has not confirmed this agreement.
At the end of the trip, Kim reportedly expressed full support from North Korea in Russia’s “sacred struggle” against Ukraine.
