King Charles III bestows new military rank upon Kate Middleton.
King Charles III Grants New Titles to Royal Family Members
On Friday, King Charles III bestowed new titles upon various members of the royal family, including three honorary military appointments for Kate Middleton. This marks Middleton’s first senior role in the Royal Air Force.
The Princess of Wales and her husband, Prince William, along with seven other working members of the royal family, were given additional roles following King Charles’ ascension to the throne after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last year.
Following His Majesty’s Accession, The King is pleased to announce further military appointments for working members of the Royal Family.
The new appointments will continue to reflect the close relationship between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family in His Majesty’s reign.

Middleton’s new honors include Commodore-in-Chief Fleet Air Arm, Colonel-in-Chief 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards, and Royal Honorary Air Commodore R.A.F. Coningsby, according to the announcement.
“The Princess of Wales also holds the titles of Colonel, Irish Guards, and Royal Honorary Air Commodore of the Air Cadets,” added the announcement from Buckingham Palace. “Additionally, Her Royal Highness is the Sponsor of HMS Glasgow, the first of the Royal Navy’s new Type 26 Frigates currently under construction. It is worth noting that the Princess’s grandfather served in the Royal Air Force.”
Middleton’s grandfather, Peter Middleton, co-piloted several flights with Prince Philip during his tour of South America in 1962, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The Prince of Wales also received new titles, including Colonel-in-Chief The Army Air Corps, Colonel-in-Chief The Mercian Regiment, and Royal Honorary Air Commodore R.A.F. Valley. These titles were granted due to Prince William’s strong affiliation with the Armed Forces, having served as a Platoon Commander in The Blues and Royals and completing flying training in the Royal Air Force, as stated in the royal household’s announcement.
