Kirstie Alley Revealed John Travolta Was “The Greatest Love of My Life” Before Her Death
The world is in mourning after the death of the former “Cheers” star Kirstie Alley, who died suddenly on Monday at the age of 71 following a short and private battle with colon cancer.
It has since been revealed that prior to her passing, Alley described her fellow Hollywood star John Travolta as being the great love of her life.

Alley Says Travolta Was ‘Greatest Love Of My Life’
People Magazine reported that Alley’s chemistry with Travolta was undeniable when they starred together in 1989’s Look Who’s Talking, along with the two sequels: Look Who’s Talking Too (1990) and Look Who’s Talking Now (1993). According to Alley, the chemistry between them onscreen translated to real life as well.
“It took me years to not look at John as a romantic interest,” Alley said in 2013, adding that Travolta was “the greatest love of my life.”
While appearing on “Celebrity Big Brother” in the U.K. in 2018, Alley revealed that she “kissed Travolta” for their movies and then “almost ran off and married” him.

“I did love him; I still love him,” she continued. “If I hadn’t been married, I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane.”

Alley And Travolta Never Could Act On Their Love
Alley claimed that though Travolta felt the same way about her, they could never act on their feelings because they were each married to other people. She was married to the actor Parker Stevenson, who she was with from 1983 until they divorced in 1997.
Meanwhile, Travolta was married to the actress Kelly Preston, a union that lasted from 1991 until she sadly died in 2020 at the age of 57 after a battle with breast cancer that she kept private just as Alley did.
While appearing on the Dan Wootton Interview podcast in 2018, Alley revealed that it was Preston who put a stop to the flirtatious side of the relationship that she had with Travolta.
“Kelly came up to me, and they were married then, and she said, ‘Erm, why are you flirting with my husband?’” Alley said. “And that was sort of when I had to make a decision and that was pretty much the end of that.”
Kirstie Alley has passed away at the age of 71.
Rest in Peace 🕊️

Though Travolta was the love of her life, Alley was ultimately glad that they never actually got together.
“John and I would have devoured each other because John and I are so alike,” she explained to Wooton. “It would be like two blazing stars that just fizzled out.”
Alley ended up becoming close friends with both Travolta and Preston, and she was even at the hospital during the birth of the couple’s 12 year-old son Benjamin.

Travolta Pays Tribute To Alley
Travolta, 68, took to social media to honor Alley after her passing with some throwback photos.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” he wrote. “I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
Alley’s two children announced on Monday night that their mother had died of cancer that was “recently discovered,” with her rep later confirming that it was colon cancer.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead,” Alley’s children said. “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
