KJP Grilled by Peter Doocy Over Lack of White House Comment on Trump Arrest
During Tuesday’s White House press conference, Karine-Jean Pierre, the Press Secretary, declined to comment on former President Donald Trump’s arraignment, which had just begun at Manhattan Criminal Court. Fox News’ Peter Doocy questioned her specifically on President Biden’s view on the matter. She refused to comment, stating that the case is ongoing.
Doocy inquired whether President Biden’s background as a lawyer is causing any concerns about the possibilities of local DA’s indicting former presidents. Jean-Pierre still refused to comment.
Doocy continued to question why the White House had nothing to say about Trump’s indictment, to which Jean-Pierre reiterated that they wouldn’t comment on an ongoing case. Michael Shear from The New York Times was not convinced by her answer, pointing out that Biden had previously commented on other ongoing cases. But Jean-Pierre reiterated her stance on not commenting on ongoing cases and stated that January 6th was an attack on democracy, while the Trump indictment is an ongoing case.
It appears that both the President and Jean-Pierre feel that there is no attack on democracy when a leading opposition candidate faces prosecution from local authorities for allegations that federal prosecutors have already declined to pursue.
