Kodak Black’s lawyer slams Hunter Biden deal, citing unequal sentences for similar offense.
An Attorney’s Criticism of Hunter Biden’s Plea Deal Sparks Controversy
An attorney representing rapper Kodak Black has raised concerns over Hunter Biden’s recent plea deal, highlighting the stark contrast between his client’s sentencing and Biden’s alleged involvement in a similar federal weapons crime.
“There’s no such thing as not getting jail time on a gun charge, on any kind of gun charge,”
– Bradford Cohen, Black’s attorney
Kodak Black, also known as Dieuson Octave, was sentenced to over three years in prison in 2019 after pleading guilty to weapons charges. He admitted to falsifying information on federal paperwork to purchase multiple firearms from a Miami-area gun store.
However, after serving 46 months, former President Donald Trump granted him a pardon.
In contrast, Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts related to his failure to pay federal income taxes. Additionally, he has entered a pretrial diversion agreement for the charge of possessing a gun while being an unlawful user or person addicted to a controlled substance.
“Two tiers of justice? Kodak was charged for the same crime. Got over three years. Mr. Biden will not serve a day. Feels right? Do FBI agents and federal authorities take cases personally?”
– Bradford Cohen, Black’s attorney
Cohen argues that the plea deal reached between the Department of Justice and President Joe Biden’s son deviates from the typical actions of federal prosecutors in cases involving public figures.
“I’ve never seen anyone where this offense was charged, and they didn’t get some sort of prison sentence,” Cohen expressed. “And in fact, most of the time in federal court, you very rarely see people get anything but a prison sentence.”
He points to the case of actress Felicity Huffman as an example, where she received a two-week prison sentence for her involvement in a federal crime.
“So, in this Felicity Huffman case, to give the woman two weeks in prison, you know that you actually have to surrender yourself going for two weeks, change her clothes out to all this stuff, for literally 14 days. And this guy gets absolutely nothing? I’ve just never seen it happen.”
– Bradford Cohen, Black’s attorney
Cohen also questions the rare use of a “diversion program” in a federal case, suggesting that it may be a strategic move to avoid potential backlash.
Overall, the attorney’s criticism of the plea deal has sparked controversy, raising concerns about the fairness and consistency of the justice system in cases involving public figures.
