The White House fired back at embattled Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) on Monday, saying she “probably should stop digging herself a hole.”
Noem, who is under fire over the story of shooting her hunting dog, questioned when a “decision” should have been made over President Joe Biden‘s dog Commander, who was removed from the White House grounds after attacking at least 24 Secret Service agents.
“What’s your response to Kristi Noem’s comments implying that Commander should be put down?” a reporter asked.
“We find her comments from yesterday disturbing,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded. “We find them absurd. This is a country that loves dogs. And you have a leader talking about putting dogs down — killing them.”
“That’s a disturbing statement to say,” she continued. “She probably should stop digging herself a hole.”
Commander is living with Biden’s relatives in Delaware, Jean-Pierre confirmed.

Noem is a rumored vice presidential candidate but faces intense backlash over portions of a forthcoming book. She killed a 14-month-old dog named Cricket, whom she “hated” after she killed a local family’s chickens and bit her when she tried to stop her.
Noem has faced further scrutiny over two errors in the book that she says will be corrected in future printings.
