L.A. County Officials To Vote On New, Massive Vaccine Requirement

The Los Angeles City Council was set to vote on a vaccine requirement on Wednesday that would apply to a broad group of areas and businesses, but the vote was delayed.

As The Los Angeles Times reported, “The measure will be voted on next week, city officials said. The proposed law could be passed that day with a majority vote. Council members had expected that the final decision might happen next week anyway: If the council had voted Wednesday on the proposal and the decision wasn’t unanimous, the measure would have required another vote next week.”

As reported by KCRA, the new rules would massively increase guidelines already put into place by Los Angeles County public health authorities that are scheduled to go into effect next month.

“The new law would cover an assortment of businesses with indoor facilities, including coffee shops, gyms, museums, bowling alleys and spas. Under the proposed rules, customers can offer written exemptions to the rules for stated religious or medical reasons, but businesses must require them to use outdoor facilities if they are available,” the Times noted.

It would also “mandate proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to enter outdoor events with 5,000 or more attendees,” the outlet added, whereas the county is already mandating similar evidence at events with over 10,000 people next month.

KCRA reported:

Under the city ordinance, people eligible for inoculation would be required to be vaccinated to enter indoor public spaces including restaurants, bars, nightclubs, gyms, sports arenas, museums, spas, nail salons, indoor city facilities and other locations. Current eligibility includes people age 12 and up. Negative coronavirus tests within 72 hours of entry to those places will be required for people with religious or medical exemptions.

“This is no longer negotiable, the risks are way too high,” council President Nury Martinez told the press earlier in the day.

“The people who are playing by the rules, the people who have been vaccinated, deserve to go back to normal,” Martinez said. “It is unfair to continue to put everyone else’s lives on pause because some won’t listen to science, data and the facts.”

She added, “We’re getting tired of protecting people who do not want to protect themselves and get vaccinated.”

Los Angeles County recently decided to put forward intensive vaccine requirements for various places and large events.

As The Daily Wire previously reported:

As reported by Fox 11 Los Angeles, “Los Angeles County is planning on issuing a new health officer order later this week that will require proof of vaccination for indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs and lounges. The order will also require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for outdoor mega-events, including Dodgers, Rams and Chargers games, County Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors Wednesday.”

The order will also mandate that customers and workers at the indoor nightlife businesses have received at least one dose of the vaccine by October 7th, and their second shot by November 4th.

The debate surrounding vaccine mandates has made its way into various sectors of public and private life as businesses and companies determine whether or not to require that their workers get vaccinated.

United Airlines is set to fire almost 600 of its U.S.-based employees after the deadline for its COVID-19 vaccine mandate came and went this week, The Daily Wire reported.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, after the company’s September 27th deadline requiring vaccination, it has gone ahead with its plans to let go of the U.S.-based workers who did not get vaccinated. The number of people who face losing their jobs stands at 593 people, according to officials from the company.

And, a “North Carolina-based hospital system has announced that it has fired about 175 unvaccinated employees for failing to comply with a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy,” per The Daily Wire.
