Breaking News: Violent Altercation at Van Nuys High School Leaves Students Injured
A shocking incident unfolded at Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles county, resulting in two students being stabbed and two others sustaining serious injuries.
The campus immediately went into lockdown after a brawl erupted among 11 students on Wednesday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Police Department swiftly responded to the scene at the Van Nuys campus quad around 11:53 a.m.
During a press conference held later in the day, Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho assured reporters that although the school remains on lockdown, there is no immediate danger, the situation is under control, and students are safely in their classrooms.
A concerned mother rushed to the school upon hearing about the incident, revealing that her child had been targeted by a group of ten individuals on campus. While her son was fortunate not to be stabbed, he suffered a blow to the head.
The weapon used in the stabbings has yet to be identified. However, Superintendent Carvalho confirmed that three students have been apprehended and are currently being questioned by the police.
“One student produced an ’unidentified weapon’ and stabbed two students, who have been transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries,” Carvalho stated during the press conference.
In total, three students were taken to the hospital, while a fourth student received medical attention from a nurse on-site.
“Starting today, Van Nuys High School will have a police officer present within its premises,” Carvalho announced.
“We don’t currently have, nor have we ever had, enough officers to cover all schools in the history of LAUSD. While some states and districts may have that policy, it’s not the case in Los Angeles. I mention this because we shouldn’t create unrealistic expectations,” he added.
