Lara Trump points finger at ‘deep state’ for botched Musk interview with former president – Washington Examiner
In a recent interview on X, former President Donald Trump’s conversation with Elon Musk was interrupted by technical difficulties, leading to a delay of over 40 minutes. Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox show shortly after and accused the “deep state” of orchestrating the disruption. Musk attributed the issues to a significant denial-of-service (DoS) attack on X, which complicates the identification of genuine user traffic versus malicious requests. Hannity suggested a link between the glitches and a recent hack of Trump’s campaign, which is under FBI investigation, with Iran as a prime suspect—though they deny involvement. Lara Trump expressed that many are actively trying to prevent her father-in-law from returning to the presidency, portraying the situation as a struggle against entrenched political adversaries in Washington, D.C.
Lara Trump points finger at ‘deep state’ for botched Musk interview with former president
Former President Donald Trump’s interview with Elon Musk on X was delayed by more than 40 minutes on Monday evening, and Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, accused the “deep state” of being behind it.
Lara Trump appeared on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox a couple of hours after Trump’s interview with Musk. Technical glitches stalled the interview, and people were prevented from joining in to listen. Musk said X had suffered a massive denial-of-service attack.
Such an attack occurs when a website is bombarded with requests by programs pretending to be users trying to view the same content. However, it is difficult for website operators to distinguish the difference between a DoS attack and users trying to access content all at once.
Hannity said the glitches in Trump’s interview may be related to the recent hack on Trump’s campaign, which is currently being investigated by the FBI. The prime suspect behind that hack appears to be Iran, but Tehran has denied any involvement.
“We’re not dealing with amateurs here,” Hannity said. “Now they have gone hard after Elon Musk tonight, and limiting the number of people that could listen to your father-in-law earlier tonight.”
Lara Trump laid the blame on the “deep state,” saying that there were a large number of people actively working to keep Trump out of the White House.
“These people are terrified,” Lara Trump said. “This is the deep state. This is a swamp in Washington, D.C. These are the people who are our adversaries in many cases, and they know that the jig is up, the game is over, when Donald J. Trump returns to the White House. And they’re petrified of it.”
The “deep state” has been a theory Trump has thrown around at several rallies. It refers to the notion that the people working in federal agencies are the ones controlling policy and how the country is being operated by bureaucrats rather than elected officials. Lara Trump offered no evidence that the glitches or the hacking was executed by the “deep state.”
“There are a lot of people out there, and there’s a massive effort, of course, to keep Donald Trump out of the White House,” Lara Trump said.
Trump’s interview with Musk garnered more than 16 million people in total tuning in to listen. At its peak, there were as many as 700,000 people listening at one time, the New York Times reported.
