Larry Hogan Says He Won’t Run for President in 2024
Ex-Republican Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a former Republican Maryland Governor, stated Sunday that he does not plan to run for President in 2024. This is despite years of speculation.
“I have long said that I care more about ensuring a future for the Republican Party than securing my own future in the Republican Party. That is why I will not be seeking the Republican nomination for president,” He said On Twitter
Hogan is a very long shot candidate for the presidency if he runs. For years, Hogan has frequently criticized former President Donald Trump—still arguably the most popular figure in the Republican Party—in media appearances.
Hogan made it clear that he had not voted for Trump during the previous two presidential elections. In 2016, he said he had written in his father’s name, ex-U.S. Rep. Larry Hogan Sr. in 2016, and in the name late President Ronald Reagan 2020.
Hogan was Maryland governor for two terms and resigned earlier this year, having been term-limited. He did not support the Trump-backed GOP candidate Dan Cox for Maryland governor, which was defeated by current Maryland Governor. Wes Moore is a Democrat.
Kelly Schulz, who served as his commerce and labor secretary during the Obama administration was Hogan’s choice to be governor. Trump-endorsed Dan Cox defeated her in the Republican primary. Cox was a state lawmaker that questioned the outcome for 2020 and tried to impeach Hogan because of his pandemic lockdown policy.
“I did give it serious consideration and I talked to people everywhere and I talked to my family,” Hogan, too told CBS News Sunday “And it was a tough decision. But I’ve decided that I will not be a candidate for the Republican nomination for president.”
In an interview with the ex-governor, he stated that Trump played a major role in his decision not running.
“I didn’t want to have a pile up of a bunch of people fighting,” Hogan said this to the outlet. “Right now, you have Trump and DeSantis at the top of the field, they’re soaking up all the oxygen, getting all the attention. And then a whole lot of the rest of us in single digits and the more of them you have, the less chance you have for somebody rising up.”
Hogan also claimed that he “didn’t need that job,” Referring to President. “I didn’t need to run for another office. It was really, I was considering it because I thought it was public service and maybe I can make a difference,” He added.

Hogan stated that he would be supporting Trump’s campaign for the White House in February after Nikki Haley (ex-UN ambassador) announced it. “absolutely” Consider quitting the race for 2024 if Trump seems to have a lot of competition who can split support from non-Trumpist candidates.
