Californians flock to Las Vegas as a prime relocation choice.
Las Vegas: The Hottest Destination for Home Buyers
Las Vegas has taken the top spot as the most popular location for relocating home buyers nationwide, according to a study by the national real estate group Redfin. And it’s no surprise why.
“Buyers with the freedom and inclination to relocate are choosing Las Vegas largely because their money goes a long way there: Its typical home sells for $412,000, less than half the price of a home in Los Angeles, the most common origin for buyers moving to Las Vegas,”
But it’s not just the affordable home prices that are attracting people to Sin City. Las Vegas offers so much more than just casinos, as many newcomers are discovering.
More Than Just Casinos
Las Vegas Realtors President Lee Barrett explains, “We have all the things a regular city has, and we have more of it than people realize. It’s a good place to raise a family and a good place to run your business.”
From mountain hiking and a ski resort to a symphony, shopping, theater, and the nation’s No. 1 hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant city.
And it’s not just home buyers who are flocking to Las Vegas. Hollywood celebrities like Mark Wahlberg, Holly Madison, and Dean Cain have recently made the move, drawn by the city’s amenities, opportunities, and family-friendly activities.
Plus, there’s another enticing factor: Nevada has no state income tax. As Barrett points out, “If you’re an extremely wealthy person, it’s a benefit to live in a state where there’s no income tax. If you still want to be close to Los Angeles to work, Las Vegas is a way to do that.”
A Housing Shortage
With the influx of Californians and other out-of-towners, the demand for housing in Las Vegas has skyrocketed. According to Las Vegas Realtor, the number of single-family homes on the market has plummeted by nearly 40 percent since last year.
Developers are now focusing on building more apartment complexes and condominiums to meet the growing demand.
Affordable Prices Compared to California
While home prices in Las Vegas remain high compared to many other regions in the United States, they are still significantly lower than in California. For example, the median home price in Los Angeles is $830,000, while in Orange County it’s $1,059,000.
So, it’s no wonder that Las Vegas has become the go-to destination for home buyers looking for affordability, opportunities, and a vibrant city life.
But Las Vegas isn’t the only hot spot for relocation. Phoenix, Arizona, and Tampa, Florida, are also popular cities for people looking to make a move, with lower median home prices than California.
So, whether you’re seeking a new adventure, a better quality of life, or simply a place where your money goes further, Las Vegas is the place to be.
