Newest 2024 Presidential Poll: Trump Surpasses Biden Once More
Trump Surpasses Biden in Polling for 2024 Election
Former President Donald Trump has once again taken the lead over President Joe Biden in recent polls for a potential face-off in the upcoming 2024 general election.
With four out of seven polls conducted this month favoring Trump, the Republican candidate now holds a 0.6 percentage point advantage over Biden, according to the RealClearPolitics (RCP) average.
Since November 2022, when Trump announced his candidacy, the two candidates have traded positions multiple times in the RCP average, with Trump’s lead reaching as high as 2.5-2.8 percentage points. However, the last time Trump held an advantage in the polling average was back in July.
Trump Leads GOP Nomination Contest
Trump is currently the front-runner in the GOP nomination race, with an impressive 56.6 percent support. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has consistently held second place, but his average has dropped from a peak of 31.3% in January, according to RCP’s tracker.
Biden Dominates Democratic Primary Surveys
In the Democratic Party’s primary surveys, Biden maintains a strong lead over his competitors. He consistently receives support ranging from 40% to 60%, while his closest rival, Robert Kennedy Jr., only manages to reach single digits or low teens.
Concerns About Age and Fitness
Recent polls have revealed that voters have significant reservations about Biden’s age (80) and his ability to effectively lead. While concerns about Trump’s age (77) also exist, they are not as pronounced. Additionally, Biden is currently facing an impeachment inquiry into corruption allegations, announced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last week.
On the other hand, Trump is dealing with four criminal cases and civil litigation. His legal defense efforts are consuming a significant amount of resources and media attention. However, Trump maintains his innocence, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and claims that politically motivated prosecutors are conducting a “witch hunt” against him.
Betting Odds Still Favor Biden
While polling may indicate Trump’s advantage in a potential rematch against Biden, another metric, RCP’s betting odds average, shows Biden leading with 32.6 compared to Trump’s 29. DeSantis, who previously held the lead in early February, has dropped to 6.4, trailing behind California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom at 7.4. It’s important to note that Newsom has not yet declared his candidacy for the White House.
