Latino voters ‘punishing’ Dems for bad policies by switching to GOP, Tucker Carlson says
Latino voters are going away from the Democratic Party and are heading toward GOP candidates as a way to punish the Left for their policies on crime and inflation, according to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Although Democrats have historically benefited from the crucial voting bloc, their numbers have dwindled as more Latino voters shifted to the Right in recent elections. That shift, Carlson said, is due to rising crime rates nationwide over the last two years, particularly in Democratic cities.
“It seems likely that more than any other issue, crime, the increase in crime in the United States, is moving Hispanic voters to the right. They see, as we all see, liberals aggressively encouraging crime,” Carlson wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. “Democrats should not be surprised when they are punished for this.”
RNC ANNOUNCES PROGRAM TO ‘HELP FUTURE VOTERS’ PREPARE FOR NATURALIZATION TEST
Inflation and crime emerged as top issues among Hispanic voters ahead of the midterm elections, according to a survey from Unidos US.
Latino voters moved toward Republican candidates in the 2020 election, shocking Democrats who are now seeking to maintain control of Congress. Hispanic voters swung toward former President Donald Trump by 8 percentage points in the two-way vote share between the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, according to Democratic data firm Catalist.
Although President Joe Biden was elected with a majority of Latino voters backing him, his support has waned over the last year amid rising crime and inflation.
Both Democrats and Republicans have poured massive funding into reaching Hispanic voters ahead of the midterm elections as both parties seek to gain control of Congress.

Democrats have ramped up their spending on advertisements targeting Latino voters, announcing a seven-figure investment to launch radio and print ads in both English and Spanish throughout Latino-rich states that are shaping up to be crucial battlegrounds in November. However, the party has been accused of being slow to pour resources into quickly naturalizing immigrants to become eligible to vote.
In response, the Republican National Committee announced a program to help immigrants prepare for their naturalization tests, offering training courses in which immigrants can learn U.S. history and politics.
