Lauren Boebert’s district switch on the cusp of saving her congressional career – Washington Examiner

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) decision to change districts from ⁣Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to the more conservative 4th District could significantly enhance her⁤ political prospects, especially after narrowly winning her previous election‍ by just over 500 votes. Her reputation had suffered due to several public incidents,⁤ including a widely criticized episode where she was ejected from a theater for vaping⁣ and causing a disturbance during⁢ a show. Despite these controversies, her relocation ⁢to a safer Republican district is seen by strategists as a strategic move that will likely secure her re-election in‍ both the primary and general elections. Following the theater incident, Boebert expressed remorse, acknowledging her mistakes during a ⁢televised interview. Her switch to the 4th ⁣District, known for its strong conservative leanings, appears to be a key tactic in maintaining her political career.

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) move to switch districts in Colorado may be the key to saving her political career.

After retaining her congressional seat by mere hundreds of votes two years ago, strategists say Boebert is set to make a political comeback as she recovers from a year of controversy.

While the conservative firebrand is well-known for her bombastic rhetoric and fiery support for former President Donald Trump, several embarrassing incidents over the last year did little to help the congresswoman’s controversial reputation in her home state. In September 2023, Boebert sparked a media firestorm as videos captured her vaping and disturbing patrons during a date at a Colorado theater. The couple was kicked out of the Beetlejuice production during the embarrassing incident that sparked backlash from Republicans and Democrats alike. The congresswoman later apologized for the incident, saying she had “messed up.”

“Believe it or not, I’m human too,” she told Jesse Waters during a Fox News interview.

After the theater debacle, the congresswoman announced her plans to switch districts. The move from Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to the bright red 4th District on the opposite side of the state boosted her chances of staying in the House. In 2022, Boebert hung on to her seat by just over 500 votes.

Six months after Boebert’s big move, strategists say she has the primary race and the general election in the bag. Colorado GOP political consultant Dick Wadham told the Wall Street Journal, “The math just isn’t there for anybody to beat her.”

His words come as a new poll shows the incumbent holds a 35-point lead over her nearest competitor. Trump endorsed Boebert in March, despite an incident at a New York gala they both attended earlier this year. The congresswoman came under scrutiny after she was allegedly admonished by Trump’s security detail for her drunken behavior during the gala.

Trump still offered her glowing words, touting the congresswoman as a “Proven Conservative and Effective Leader who delivers for Colorado and our America First agenda.”

“Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is a trusted America First Fighter, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District,” Trump proclaimed on Truth Social.

Should she win Tuesday’s primary, Boebert will be treading in safe waters this November. According to the Cook Political Report, her district holds a 13-point Republican advantage. Her Republican predecessor won the district by 24 points in the last election.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Boebert campaign for comment.
