Lawmakers Mum As Ticketmaster Doles Out Tickets For Farrakhan Hate Rally

Jewish activists have criticized the ticketing giant for selling tickets to an Louis Farrakhan event, in which the minister supported Adolf Hitler’s cause and predicted another Holocaust against Jews. Many of Ticketmaster’s most vocal critics on Capitol Hill seem not to care.
Ticketmaster, which charges service fees on each ticket it sells, raked in money selling tickets to Farrakhan’s annual Saviours’ Day conference in Chicago last weekend. His inauguration, Farrakhan received a lot of attention. Capitol Hill received a few crickets, but almost no member of Congress voiced concern about Ticketmaster’s profiteering from the Farrakhan concert. This is a stark contrast with the lawmakers’ reaction to Ticketmaster’s botched sales of Taylor Swift’s concert tour last year. This scandal was featured on the news for several weeks. It led to a Department of Justice investigation, as well as a Senate Hearing. Both sides of this issue claim that Ticketmaster, and its parent company LiveNation, hold a monopoly in the ticket industry. This has resulted in price gouging as well as failures to crack down against automated scalping.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.), expressed concern about Ticketmaster’s practices. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R.Wash.), who is currently the chairwoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee raised concerns about Ticketmaster’s practices last year, while Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D. Conn.), and Amy Klobuchar(D. Minn.). So called On the Department of Justice to investigate. None of their offices were able to respond to a request regarding Farrakhan sales at Ticketmaster.
Only Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.)—who also spoke out about the Taylor Swift debacle—weighed in on the Farrakhan controversy when contacted by the Washington Free Beacon.
