LeBron James causes ref to bleed in loss after 25 years of wanting to do so.
LeBron James Collides with Referee in Lakers’ Disastrous Loss
The Lakers suffered a devastating 119-108 loss on Saturday night, leaving them and LeBron James in a tough spot as they attempt to pull off a 3-0 playoff series comeback, a feat no NBA team has ever accomplished. However, James unintentionally took his pound of flesh during the game, colliding with longtime NBA referee Scott Foster in the second quarter.
At first glance, the collision may not seem severe, but considering James’ size and speed, even a glancing blow could be catastrophic for a smaller man like Foster. The referee was left with blood splattered on his face, but he appeared to take the situation in stride, wiping the blood away with a towel.
The Moment of Brevity
Despite the initial gruesomeness of the incident, it led to a moment of levity as James’ teammate, Austin Reaves, jokingly suggested that James should receive a technical foul for the collision. Foster responded with a deadpan “I’ve got it,” before cracking a joke at James’ expense, saying “You’ve been wanting to do that for 25 years.”
The Lakers’ Zero Margin for Error
The Lakers now have zero margin for error as they head into Game 4 on Monday evening. If the Nuggets can secure just one more win in four attempts against the Lakers, they will be heading to their first-ever NBA Finals in franchise history.
