Left-Wing Group Says Opposition to Biden’s Old White Lady Nominee Is ‘Anti-Black’
A left-wing media advocacy organization is standing by President Joe Biden’s Federal Communications Commission nominee, an 61-year old white woman. She claims she has faced discrimination. “anti-Black dog whistles” From critics.
“Since Biden nominated public-interest champion Gigi Sohn to fill the fifth tie-breaking seat at the FCC, she has faced anti-Semitic, homophobic, and deceitful attacks,” Free Press stated in a Thursday fundraising email, “including anti-Black dog whistles from a police union.”
Biden’s nomination for Sohn was stalled by the committee in January 2021. After which, the president renominated Sohn for the position. For her comments, senators, including some Democrats have opposed Sohn calling FCC to investigate conservative network and describing Fox News “state-sponsored propaganda.”
The Fraternal Order of Police was founded. opposed Sohn’s support for calls to defund the Police and her role as a member of an organization that has fought against police access to encrypted communications. According to the union, Sohn’s track record shows her commitment to protecting the police. “serious animus towards law enforcement officers and the rule of law.”
Free Press claimed in its fundraising appeal that the union’s allegation was false. “anti-Black dog whistle that’s often levied against public-interest advocates.”
Free Press didn’t respond to our request for comment about whether the Fraternal Order of Police’s criticism of Sohn was a dog whistle.
The media advocacy group was founded in 2002 by socialist professor Robert McChesney, who praised Venezuela under former dictator Hugo Chávez and called for “remov[ing] brick by brick the capitalist system itself, rebuilding the entire society on socialist principles.” Free Press also received millions of Dollars from George Soros, a far-left billionaire and founder of the Open Society Foundations.
