Legal group wants Navy to investigate active-duty drag queen for breaking military rules.

Conservative Group Demands Navy Investigate Drag Queen for Partisan Politics

“The Navy cannot have one standard for political conservatives … and another more generous standard for YN2 Kelley and others who share his views.”

The America First Legal (AFL) group is calling for an investigation into Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley, also known as Harpy Daniels, for allegedly violating military protocols by engaging in partisan politics and disrespecting superiors. AFL sent a letter to high-ranking Naval officials outlining Kelley’s behavior, which they claim includes repeatedly engaging in partisan activity, publicly criticizing command, and misusing his uniform for personal gain.

Kelley was recruited by the Navy to be a “Navy Digital Ambassador” as part of a pilot program designed to reach potential military recruits. However, AFL has highlighted several instances of Kelley violating military codes, including issuing social media posts supportive of Democrats and antagonistic toward Republicans. AFL contends that Kelley’s behavior is unacceptable and demands an immediate investigation to prevent further damage to the Navy’s reputation.

Examples of Kelley’s Partisan Behavior

  • Retweeting posts calling for people to elect Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and “vote in a Democratic majority in the midterms and in the White House in 2020.”
  • Celebrating congressional Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives, writing “The Blue Wave is here and taking Storm.”
  • Tweeting that “[I]f [he] was out of uniform [he’d] speak so much more of [his] political view.”
  • Accusing then-President Donald Trump of “agree[ing] to white supremacy” and telling his Twitter followers to “Please vote, if not yet registered!! #Democrat.”
  • Displaying acts of disrespect toward senior military service members, including tweeting “All of 7th fleet is lazy.”

Kelley appears to have deleted his Twitter account following AFL’s publication of the letter.
