Leonardo DiCaprio Says CCP-Linked Financier Planned to Donate $30 Million to Obama’s 2012 Campaign
Malaysian financier Jho Low, who has links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), intended to donate up to $30 million to aid then-U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, according to Leonardo DiCaprio.
Testifying during a federal hearing in Washington, DiCaprio shared a conversation he had with Low, whose original name is Low Taek Jho.
DiCaprio stated Low announced his intention to donate a “significant amount” to the Democratic Party, which amounted to “$20 to 30 million.”
DiCaprio took the stand during the trial of the Fugees hip-hop band’s Prakazrel “Pras” Michel. According to an indictment, Michel conspired with Low to transfer foreign funds to Obama’s 2012 campaign.
Prosecutors accused Michel of receiving $21 million from Low and channeling it through a series of straw donors, including associates of Michel.
Michel concealed the funding while also pressuring the Trump administration to dismiss its investigation into Low, which violated U.S. law after conspiring with others to donate funds indirectly or directly to U.S. campaigns.
The U.S. Justice Department declared that Michel and Low facilitated the conspiracy “to obtain access to and influence with” Obama. In one event, an associate of Michel sent an email to Low, which stated that funding would ensure a “maximum 15 minutes audience” with Obama.
In charging papers, Low’s father posed for photos with Obama at a Washington function, but Low didn’t encounter the president.
Chinese Vice-Minister for Public Security, a CCP member, was involved in the initiative, prosecutors claimed. The scheme incorporated a plan to expel a Chinese dissident to the nation.
Low is a fugitive, and several prominent public figures are linked with him.
