Leslye Headland Says Star Wars Series “The Acolyte” Tells a Story From “The Perspective of the Villains”

The Acolyte’s Executive Producer Leslye Headland appeared at Star Wars Celebration and provided some new details about the upcoming Disney+ show specifically noting the series tells its story from “the perspective of the villains.”

Headland explained to participants at Star Wars Celebration 2023 where the show is specifically in the timeframe and how she pitched the program while also discussing its placement in it.

We’re’re at the end of that[ High Republic ] era and moving more into George’s’s period of The Phantom Menace, she said, which is one of the things that would be helpful to sort of put in perspective.

As a result, when I first pitched the show to Kathleen Kennedy— a fan— I had no connection to Skywalker Saga or any of the other people in the High Republic. How do you balance the Jedi at their pinnacle of power, the Galaxy at this Age of Enlightenment and love, and who George claims they become at the top of The Phantom Menace? was the idea I wanted to introduce to the viewers as well.

“And to me that meant why don’t you tell a story about Star Wars from the perspective of the villains, of the bad guys. And if those bad guys are outnumbered at this point then that means that you get this opportunity to see how the Jedi very subtly go from who they were in the High Republic and the Old Republic and who they became by the time you’re watching episodes one, two, and three,” she relayed.

Headland, an artist as well, started crying and cried, saying,” Star Wars saved my life.”

The truth is, we are quite spoiled now with Star Wars internet, she continued. I am aware that there are times when it can feel like,” Well, I like this thing, and” I don’t like that thing ,” and it’s’s okay if you dislike The Acolyte. It makes no difference. The truth is that Star Wars is not just a huge world full of numerous characters from various eras; rather, it is always, consistently, usually about the spiritual process of what it means to become who you are.

“And that’s why I’m that’s why I am so so overwhelmed and grateful to be here and beyond overwhelmed and grateful to be allowed as a filmmaker to experience what it is like to actually tactilely
make something in this world. That is beyond my wildest dreams and  I I can’t wait to show you guys more I wish I could,” Headland stated.

She then revealed, “We are still shooting so I can’t. We’re not done yet. So we don’t have enough to show yet, but hopefully you will be able to see it soon.”

The best parts of Star Wars, according to actor Charlie Barnett,” The Acolyte ,” are” There Is No Good Or Evil, Depends On What Side You’re’re Standing On.”

Charlie Barnett also made an appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023 and remarked,” The best parts about star Wars is there is no good or evil, depends on what side you’re’re standing on ,” in contrast to Headland’s’s claim that she pitched the show as looking at the universe from the villains, one of the actors in the series.

After being asked to sum up The Acolyte in five words or less, Barnett shared his ideas. ” I would say a” debate for power ,” he retorted. The best thing about Star Wars, he continued, is that there is no good or evil. It really depends on which hand you are supporting.

” You can look at any angle and see yourself relayed through all the characters: Darth ] Vader ] to Luke ,” he said. You understand what I’m’m saying.

The Acolyte reshapes Star Wars, according to Barnett, who continued by saying,” This show is certainly about that balance of power and strong versus bad.” And in all honesty, realizing so much of it starts at the beginning.

When it comes to this display, there are already obviously conflicting messages being pitched. The show follows the criminals, according to Headland, and the most significant aspect of Star Wars is the spiritual adventures the figures take. Barnett is pushing a moral relativism through the display.

It’s’s difficult to imagine that the actual show will have any connective tissue or attempt to follow Star Wars canon, something Disney and Lucasfilm have made it seem clear they have been unable to do in shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi – Wan Kenobi.
