‘Let Me Be All Misty And S***’: Chris Rock Gets Emotional Addressing Oscars ‘Slap’

Superstar comedian Chris Rock on Wednesday night became emotional when he walked on stage for his comedy set, speaking for the first time since actor Will Smith notoriously slapped him across the face during Sunday night’s Academy Awards show.

“Let me be all misty and s***,” Rock said with tears in his eyes, according to CNN.

In the first of Rock’s two shows that night, “he was greeted by the audience at Boston’s Wilbur Theater with two back-to-back standing ovations, lasting several minutes,” the report added.

“How was your weekend?” the “SNL” alum casually said to the crowd, drawing loud laughter. “I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend.”

“I’m still kind of processing what happened,” he said. “So, at some point I’ll talk about that s***. And it will be serious and funny.”

Rock, during a segment at the Oscars, spotted actress Jada Pinkett Smith in the audience and cracked a joke about how she was going to be in the next “G.I. Jane” movie, referring to her bald head.

The mild joke apparently triggered Smith, her husband, who walked up on stage and slapped Rock across the face and then yelled at the superstar comedian to keep his wife’s name out of his “f***ing mouth.” A stunned Rock quickly transitioned back to the show.

After the Academy made noise about their disapproval of Smith, the “I Am Legend” actor finally apologized for his actions on Monday evening.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” the actor wrote. “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about my Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Smith added. “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

Jada broke her silence since the slap on Tuesday, posting to social media, “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it.” The actress limited comments on the post.
