Letitia James Accused Of Exactly What She Prosecuted Trump For

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has pursued President Donald Trump over alleged property value inflation for securing favorable loan terms, now faces a federal criminal referral for similar charges. Reports indicate that James allegedly misrepresented property details to obtain home loans, including falsely claiming a virginia property as her principal residence while serving as Attorney General in New York. This referral comes after she celebrated a $450 million penalty against Trump for civil fraud, were no actual victims were involved.Critics have pointed out the irony of James’ situation, especially sence she has accused Trump of similar misrepresentation. Legal scholars remark on the severity of the allegations against her, suggesting they could led to various charges, including bank fraud and making false statements. This has led to discussions about whether public figures should be held to different legal standards than ordinary citizens.

After spending months theatrically chasing President Donald Trump over allegedly inflating property values to secure favorable loan terms (with no actual victims, mind you), James now finds herself the target of a federal criminal referral for — wait for it — allegedly misrepresenting property details to secure favorable loan terms.

In February 2024, James celebrated the $450 million penalty against President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization in a civil fraud case in which there were no victims.

“Roses are red. Violets are blue. No one is above the law. Even when you think the rules don’t apply to you,” James said in a post on X.

“When powerful people cheat to get better loans, it comes at the expense of hardworking people. Everyday Americans cannot lie to a bank to get a mortgage, and if they did, our government would throw the book at them,” James said in a separate post on X.

“There simply cannot be different rules for different people,” she continued.

Agreed, Ms. James. Which makes the next part especially awkward.

According to the New York Post (NYP), which obtained a letter sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, James was “hit with a federal criminal referral for instances of alleged mortgage fraud.”

James allegedly “falsified records” to obtain home loans for a property in Virginia that she claimed in 2023 was her “principal residence” despite serving in New York at the time, according to The Post. The alleged falsification occurred weeks before she launched her politically motivated sham trial against the Trump Organization for allegedly inflating the values of its properties.

“Ms. James was the sitting Attorney General of New York and is required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York — even though her mortgage applications list her intent to have the Norfolk, VA, property as her primary home,” the letter reportedly states.

“It appears Ms. James’ property and mortgage-related misrepresentations may have continued to her recent 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase in order to secure a lower interest rate and more favorable loan terms,” the letter continued.

The letter further alleges that James has “consistently misrepresented” a five-family unit that she purchased in 2021 in Brooklyn “as only having four units in both building permit applications and numerous mortgage documents and applications.”

Pulte alleges, according to The Post, that James “appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms.” Pulte reportedly said such charges could include making false statements to a financial institution, bank fraud, mail fraud and wire fraud.

Fox News contributor and George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Tuesday night that the criminal referral is “quite damning.”

“These are misleading statements,” Turley said while on The Ingraham Angle. “This is a person who prosecuted Trump for everything short of ripping a label off a mattress, and among the charges that were brought in New York, in just the civil but the criminal case, was making false or misleading statements to financial institutions.”

“If we apply the Letitia James standard that she created, there’d be little question here. This seems pretty straightforward,” he continued.

As I previously reported, “James accused Trump of inflating his personal wealth to get better loan terms. Trump, for example, valued his Mar-a-Lago estate at between $427 million and $612 million, Forbes reported. Activist Judge Arthur Engoron, however, cited a one-off local Palm Beach County appraiser who valued the property as low as $18 million. Some experts have reportedly valued the sprawling property in the hundreds of millions.”

Trump has since appealed the ruling, with a New York appellate court raising questions about the “troubling” penalty and James’ justification for bringing the case to begin with.

Trump was dragged through the mud by James all the while James herself was allegedly engaged in the type of behavior she hunted down Trump for. Well now, like James repeatedly stated during her witch-hunt against Trump, “Nobody is above the law.”
