Liberal⁢ Singer-Songwriter Calls Out Obama

Liberal singer-songwriter‌ Lucy Dacus made ‌headlines when she referred to‌ former president‍ Barack Obama as a “war criminal“‍ after he included a song⁢ by her band, boygenius,‍ in his annual summer playlist.

Although‍ Dacus did ‍not provide further explanation,‌ her comment may be related ⁣to Obama’s controversial use⁣ of drone strikes during his presidency. Critics on the ⁣left‍ have frequently voiced their concerns about this ‍issue. Obama authorized over⁢ 500 ‍drone strikes, resulting in the deaths of 324 civilians.

Dacus, along with her bandmates Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, have also⁤ been vocal about their ‍disapproval ‌of former president‍ Donald ⁢Trump and Republicans. During ‌a Coachella set in ‌April,‍ Dacus shouted, “Trans lives ⁣matter, trans kids matter,”‌ while Bridgers exclaimed,⁤ “Abortion rocks⁤ and f— Ron DeSantis.”

Dacus’s comment is just one example of leftist political and cultural ⁣figures criticizing Obama for⁢ his actions during his presidency. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) defended the “defund the police” slogan against Obama’s⁤ criticism, stating that it can bring about real change. ⁤Progressive⁤ candidates in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary debates also targeted Obama on his⁢ healthcare plan. Former New York City mayor Bill de Blasio advocated for a Medicare-for-All proposal while criticizing the private healthcare ⁢system that Obamacare left in place.

In 2019, CNN reporter Rebecca Buck reported that Obama expressed ⁣exasperation over the Democratic Party’s shift to the left.
