‘Life Is Precious’: Kenny Chesney Speaks Out After Fan Tragically Dies At Concert
Country music superstar Kenny Chesney spoke out this week after a woman tragically fell to her death while attending one of his concerts.
In a statement Sunday, Chesney sent his condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman, who fell Saturday night during his concert at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. Denver Police reported that they are investigating the incident as an accidental death.
“An adult female guest at Empower Field at Mile High was sitting on an escalator railing, fell to the concourse below, and died as a result of the injuries,” the Denver Police Department wrote in a statement on Twitter Sunday. “This is being investigated as an accidental death.”
Fox 31 Denver added that the Denver coroner’s office would determine the official cause of death, and release the identity of the woman when its examination was complete.
According to the Denver Post, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday night at the end of Chesney’s performance. Eyewitnesses said that the woman was sitting on the railing of an escalator when she fell off it to the concourse below. The woman died from her injuries.
Denver Police spokesman Nate Magee told the paper he did not know if alcohol was a factor in the fall, but the woman was not pushed or shoved before she fell. “To my understanding there was none of that, it was just an accidental fall, I don’t think anyone pushed her or anything like that,” Magee told the Post, citing eyewitnesses. Magee said he did not know how far she fell, or whether she was taken to a hospital or pronounced dead at the stadium.
In a statement Sunday, the “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” and “The Boys of Fall” singer spoke out on the accident, expressing his condolences to the woman’s loved ones.
“I was devastated to learn of the loss of someone after our show,” Chesney said, via the Denver Post. “There had been so much joy, so much heart coming from the people of Denver last night — and to hear this is heartbreaking. Life is precious. Sharing music brings us together and that love we share makes us so much more. For the lady who came to share that love, there are no words. For her friends and family’s loss, I grieve with them and for them.”
Empower Field also issued a statement expressing condolences. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the woman involved in the tragic incident that occurred at the end of Saturday’s concert at Empower Field at Mile High,” the stadium shared via Twitter Sunday. “There is nothing more important than the safety of our guests, and Stadium Management Company is in communication with the Denver Police Department as it investigates this unfortunate situation.”
Chesney’s Denver concert was part of his cross-country “Here And Now 2022 Stadium Tour.” Chesney, 54, has eight more stops on the tour, closing with two performances at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
Empower Field at Mile High is the home stadium of the Denver Broncos.
