Illinois LIHEAP: Water and sewer bill benefits in 5 days.
Water Bill Assistance for Eligible Residents in Illinois
Residents in Illinois who are eligible will now receive benefits to help pay for their water bills in just five days. This initiative, known as LIHWAP (Low Income Household Water Assistance Program), aims to support individuals who are at risk of losing access to water due to various reasons.
Applying for LIHWAP benefits is simple and convenient, as it utilizes the same application process as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. This means that eligible individuals can easily access the assistance they need without any additional hassle.
Who is Eligible for LIHWAP?
LIHWAP benefits are available to those who have experienced water disconnection, are currently at risk of having their water disconnected, or owe more than $50 in outstanding payments on their current water bill.
Furthermore, individuals who do not owe any money on their water or sewer bill as of July 1 can also benefit from the water and sewer rate reduction program. This assistance is available throughout the year and is open to those who have utilized it in previous years as well.
Additional Assistance for Heating and Cooling
In addition to water bill assistance, eligible residents in Illinois can also receive LIHEAP payments to help with heating their homes during colder months. This program ensures that individuals can stay warm and comfortable during the winter season.
While several states offer cooling assistance to low-income residents, it’s important to note that Illinois does not currently provide this type of assistance. However, LIHEAP payments can be utilized to purchase, install, or repair air conditioning units and heat pumps. They can also be used to cover electric bills or security deposits for operating cooling equipment.
Don’t miss out on these valuable benefits! Apply for LIHWAP and LIHEAP today to receive the support you need.
