Pennsylvania residents have eight days left to apply for LIHWAP payments of up to $2,500 for water bills.
Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program: Apply Now!
Attention Pennsylvania residents with low incomes! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to maintain access to drinking water and wastewater services. The deadline to apply for the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program is approaching fast – only eight days left!
If you’re a customer of the Philadelphia Water Department, you could receive up to $2,500 towards your past-due water bills and an additional $2,500 for your wastewater bill. The best part? This program is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act, meaning it’s a grant that you don’t have to pay back!
Applications opened on July 10th, so act quickly. Remember, you can only receive this crisis grant once, so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity.
Qualifications and Application Process
To qualify for this temporary emergency program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Received a notice that your water service will be shut off within the next 60 days
- Own or rent your home
- Meet the required household income limit
When applying, make sure to have the following documents ready:
- A recent water bill
- Names, birth dates, and proof of income for all household members
Once your application is approved, your water provider is required to keep your water service turned on for at least 90 days. This ensures that you and your family have access to clean drinking water.
“Every Pennsylvanian has a right to clean drinking water that keeps our homes safe and our families healthy,” emphasized Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Val Arkoosh. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians who are at risk of losing drinking water or wastewater services and have not received LIHWAP previously to apply as soon as possible when the program opens.”
For more information on how to get help with unpaid bills, visit the Philadelphia Water Department website or call 877-395-893 to request an application. If you prefer to apply in person, simply print and fill out a paper application and return it to your local county assistance office.
