Lindsey Graham decries DNC as ‘hate fest full of insults’ – Washington Examiner
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed strong criticism of the recent Democratic National Convention, labeling it a “hate fest” characterized by insults towards former President Donald Trump rather than substantive policy discussions. Speaking on CNN’s *State of the Union*, Graham highlighted that the convention was focused more on attacking Trump, with little attention given to policy issues. He argued that this approach was designed to provoke a response from Trump, noting that while the Democrats aimed to draw him into exchanges, he advised Trump to concentrate on policies. Graham emphasized the current public discontent over issues like inflation and cost of living, positioning Trump as the candidate able to effect change. He criticized Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, suggesting she would continue the policies of the past four years, leaving voters with no new solutions.
Lindsey Graham decries DNC as ‘hate fest full of insults’
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) does not agree with positive assessments of the Democratic National Convention last week, calling the gathering a “hate fest,” among other terms.
Democrats nominated Vice President Kamala Harris for president during their convention, but they also spent a significant amount of time discussing her opponent, former President Donald Trump. Graham said the convention was “light on policy” while being “heavy on insults” toward Trump, while speaking on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday.
“You saw a hate fest full of insults. And Donald Trump said to Barack Obama, you’re a nice man after President Obama insulted and and jabbed President Trump continuously,” Graham said. “It was designed to draw him into an exchange of insults.”
“It was light on policy, heavy on insults. So I told President Trump, then and now, you’re going to win this thing if you focus on policy,” he added.
Graham then noted that people are not “joyful” on several matters including inflation and cost of living, and pitched a Trump second term. Democrats have been using themes of “joy” heavily since Harris became the nominee.
“I think President Trump offers the best solution to change the trajectory of the country. And finally, if you’re waiting on Kamala Harris to come up with new policies, you’re going to die waiting, because she will continue what they’ve been doing for the last four years,” Graham said. “That’s why she has no new policies to offer, because they’re going to keep doing the same old thing.”
Graham also responded to a clip of Trump earlier this week where the former president said he did not care what the South Carolina senator has to say.
“I will be by his side in this election. I am proud of what he did as our president,” Graham said.
“The best way to win this race is what I’ve been saying the whole time, compare what you did as President to the life we’re leaving now and offer people some hope that change is coming,” he added. “It is not coming with reelecting Vice President Harris, making her your president does not change anything in this country, getting Donald Trump back in office is your best hope if you want things to change.”
Graham has previously warned Trump to focus on policy rather than personal attacks for his campaign, arguing that it is his best way to secure victory in November against Harris.
