Lions rely on Gibbs and Goff to defeat struggling Raiders 26-14.
The Detroit Lions’ Draft Success Fuels Turnaround
The Detroit Lions have found their winning formula by making smart draft picks. The latest examples of their success are rookies Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta.
Gibbs had a standout performance, rushing for 152 yards and scoring a touchdown. LaPorta also made a significant impact with eight receptions for 57 yards and a score. Together, they helped the Lions secure a 26-14 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.
Coach Dan Campbell expressed his satisfaction with Gibbs’ performance, stating, ”We wanted to get Gibbs going. You could tell he was feeling it.”
Despite some early setbacks, including turnovers and missed opportunities, the Lions managed to secure a double-digit victory thanks to their strong defense.
Jared Goff’s interception, returned for a touchdown by Marcus Peters, allowed the Raiders to narrow the gap. However, the Lions responded with a touchdown run by Gibbs, extending their lead.
Riley Patterson’s 52-yard field goal further solidified the Lions’ advantage in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Raiders struggled offensively, with Jimmy Garoppolo throwing a league-leading ninth interception. Even when given time to throw, Garoppolo failed to connect with open receivers.

Goff showcased his skills, completing 26 of 37 passes for 272 yards. LaPorta’s touchdown catch added to the Lions’ lead.

“He’s a very talented player with a very dynamic skill set,” said coach Josh McDaniels about Gibbs.
