List: Trump names acting heads of government agencies
As one of his first acts, President Donald Trump appointed 31 people to lead various government agencies on an acting basis while his Cabinet nominees move through the Senate confirmation process.
The list of people Trump approved on Monday after he was sworn in will carry out the first acts of Trump’s second term. Trump has vowed to undo many of the policies of outgoing President Joe Biden. Here are the people that Trump assigned to lead the government in the interim.
Defense Department
Robert Salesses will serve as Trump’s acting secretary of defense. Prior to his appointment to the acting role, Salesses served as deputy director of defense for Washington Headquarters Services. Salesses served as a Marine Corps officer and won a Bronze Star during the Gulf War.
State Department
Lisa Kenna was appointed acting secretary of state. She previously served as assistant secretary of State for intelligence and research and was the head of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. During his first term, Trump nominated Kenna to be ambassador to Peru. She served under former President Joe Biden in that role.
Treasury Department
Trump chose David Lebryk to serve as acting treasury secretary. Prior to his pick, Lebryk served as the Treasury’s fiscal assistant secretary, which is the Treasury’s most senior career position. He has served in that role since being appointed to it more than a decade ago. He has served in numerous policy and operations positions at the Treasury in his over 30 years there.
Justice Department
Trump tapped Justice Department immigration attorney James McHenry to serve as his acting attorney general. McHenry is reportedly viewed as a hard-liner on immigration and had been working in a Justice Department role overseeing immigration judges prior to his selection.
