Liz Cheney Lands On Her Feet With Gig At University Of Virginia
An ex-Congresswoman Liz Cheney She is now a University of Virginia professor of politics.
The UVA Center for Politics announced Wednesday that Cheney had been hired. Cheney will join the school as a professor of clinical practice and will participate in both research and seminars. Cheney was one the ten Republicans who voted in impeachment of former President Donald Trump 2021. She was primaried from her seat at the 2022 midterms.
“Preserving our constitutional republic is the most important work of our time, and our nation’s young people will play a crucial role in this effort,” Cheney stated this in the university’s News release. “I look forward to working with students and colleagues at the center to advance the important work they and others at the University of Virginia are doing to improve the health of democracy here and around the world. I hope my work with the Center for Politics and the broader community at the University of Virginia will contribute to finding lasting solutions that not only preserve, but strengthen our democracy.”
Cheney, a professor, will present University-wide lectures and be a guest speaker in seminars with Larry J. Sabato (Center for Politics director) and other faculty. She will contribute to the research of the center and take part in community and university events. She will remain in her position until the fall 2023 semester and has the option of renewing.
“With democracy under fire in this country and elsewhere around the world, Liz Cheney serves as a model of political courage and leadership,” Sabato was also mentioned in the news release. “Liz will send a compelling message to students about integrity. She’s a true profile in courage, and she was willing to pay the price for her principles and democracy itself.”
“Our students will have an incredible opportunity to learn from Liz Cheney, who has fiercely defended democracy as part of a distinguished career,” Jim Ryan, University of Virginia President added. “I’m delighted that she has chosen the University of Virginia and the Center for Politics as a next step, and I very much look forward to working with her.”
Cheney was one the ten Republicans who voted for former President Trump to be impeached. Cheney lost her job as House Republican Conference Chair due to her vote and the repeated criticisms she received from her own party. She was then elected to the January 6th Committee. Cheney was defeated by a Trump-backed challenger and natural resources lawyer in the 2022 Republican primaries. Harriet HagemanIn a 66%-29% win. Hageman won the general election.
Cheney already has some experience as an instructor. In October she gave a series lecture at Syracuse University, Harvard UniversityThe, and University of Notre Dame.
In 2009, the former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio After being elected mayor, he had another chance of success. In August, the former mayor of Big Apple joined Harvard’s faculty as a visiting fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard and as a Senior Leader Fellow at T.H. The Chan School of Public Health teaches courses in leadership in public health.
