Lol: Soros-Funded Group Attempts to Teach Journos to Fight Disinformation

A group focused on leftist journalism, which is funded by billionaire George Soros, has released a guide to help reporters fight digital threats like disinformation despite a history of promoting preposterous leftist propaganda. The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) recently released the first of many chapters from its upcoming Reporter’s Guide to Investigating Digital Threats, titled Investigating Digital Threats: Disinformation.

The author, Jane Lytvynenko, warns that “problems of disinformation that can seem insurmountable will genuinely become so,” without reporting providing the necessary checks and balances. The article also criticizes Big Tech platforms’ inadequate investment in monitoring disagreeable views.

The GIJN is just one of many well-funded media operations listed in Soros’ global Propaganda Powerhouse. This media conglomerate promotes radical leftist ideology on topics including Marxist economics, abortion, environmental extremism, and LGBT fanaticism. Between 2017 and 2021, Soros’ Open Society Foundations donated $1,850,000 to the GIJN and $1,975,000 to Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center, where Lytvnenko worked, to research media manipulation tactics and educate the public about disinformation.

GIJN has also been accused of promoting leftist propaganda, such as its Election Panel on October 1, 2020, which warned that the 2020 election would mean the end of democracy if former President Donald Trump won. In a tweet, GIJN stated, “A woman’s right to abortion is currently under threat in the United States,” when the Supreme Court was considered overturning the Roe v. Wade ruling. GIJN also claimed that the United States is one of the most economically and racially unequal societies in the world.

It is ironic that a group like GIJN would teach journalists how to fight disinformation, given its own history of promoting unsubstantiated leftist theories. The fact that the group is associated with a billionaire who dislikes America is not surprising, either. GIJN believes that its Reporter’s Guide is important to understand the growing number of researchers, reporters, and academics who are uncovering ever more damning facets of online manipulation.

It is laughable at best.
