Democratic representative, who opposes abortion, gains support from House Democratic leaders following tight primary race.

The Single ⁢Anti-Abortion ‍Democrat Receives Major ⁤Boost in Support

The single anti-abortion Democrat⁤ in the House has received a new ‍boost in support after a nail-biting primary, winning the ⁤endorsement of⁢ the entire House Democratic leadership.

Rep. Henry ⁤Cuellar (D-TX) has secured the support of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries ⁢(D-NY), Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), Caucus Chairman Pete ⁢Aguilar (D-CA), Assistant Democratic⁢ Leader Jim Clyburn (D-SC), former ‌House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), former Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MA), and ⁣BOLD PAC, the political arm of the Congressional ‍Hispanic Caucus, the Texas Tribune first ⁤reported.

Strong Endorsements for Cuellar’s Continued Representation

“Henry Cuellar is an accomplished advocate for the people⁢ of South Texas who is working hard to build an⁣ economy‌ from the ‌middle out and the bottom up,” Jeffries said⁢ in a statement. “I strongly endorse Congressman Cuellar and his continued⁤ representation of the people‌ of the 28th congressional district.”

Cuellar expressed ⁤his gratitude to Jeffries and confidently stated,⁤ “I will win again decisively in 2024.”

“I⁤ am ⁢honored to⁢ have the current and previous House Democratic Leadership‌ endorse my 2024 campaign,” Cuellar ⁢said, as reported‍ by Fox News. He added that his victory will “help bring a Democratic‍ majority to the House of Representatives.”

Surprising Endorsements Amidst Progressive Support

The endorsements come‍ as a surprise, given the progressive nature of much of his new support. In the past two primaries, Cuellar narrowly defeated⁢ progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros. The 2022 primary was particularly close, coming just after⁣ the leak of the Dobbs Supreme ⁣Court decision, pushing⁣ the race into a runoff where⁢ Cuellar won by just 300⁤ votes.

Cuellar emerged victorious in the general election, winning by a⁤ comfortable‍ margin of 13 points.
