Long Shot 2024 Candidate Qualifies for GOP Debates, Rebukes ‘Dumb’ Loyalty Pledge Required
Long-shot Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie announced on Wednesday night that he has met the minimum requirements to reach the stage in next month’s first 2024 primary debate. In an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, Christie revealed that he has one percent support in more than one national poll and has received over 40,000 unique donors in just 35 days, surpassing his campaign’s progress in the 2016 primary.

Americans are ready for someone to stand up to Donald Trump, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Get your popcorn!” – Chris Christie
Christie expressed his excitement about the broad support his campaign has received, with donors from every state in America and over 200 donors in 36 states. He confidently stated, “The good news I think for the Republican Party is that means I’m going to be on the debate stage on August 23.”
Should Chris Christie drop out of the 2024 election race?
Christie’s previous run in the 2016 primary ended in February after finishing sixth in New Hampshire with only seven percent of the state’s voters supporting him. During his interview with Cooper, Christie criticized the debate stage requirement of pledging support to the eventual Republican nominee, calling it a “dumb idea.” He had previously stated that he would not take the pledge seriously and expressed his dissatisfaction with it to the Republican National Committee.
Currently polling at 2.6 percent in the Real Clear Politics average, Christie has a favorable rating of 22 percent among Americans of every background, according to an Economist/YouGov poll. However, 56 percent view him unfavorably, while the rest have no opinion on him.
The first Republican primary debate will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 23.
