Longtime GOP Rep. David Schweikert hangs onto his seat in Arizona House race
Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) won reelection to represent Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Scottsdale and parts of Tempe and Phoenix.
He won over former Democratic state Rep. Amish Shah with 52% of the vote to Shah’s 48%, with 95% of the vote being counted so far. The Associated Press called the race at 10:03 p.m. Sunday.
This will be Schweikert’s eighth term in Congress.
The once solidly Republican district has moved to a “Republican-leaning”/”toss-up” in recent years. During the 2022 midterm election, Schweikert hung on to his seat by just over 3,000 votes.
