Los Angeles prosecutor files lawsuit against Soros-funded district attorney

George Gascón, the Los Angeles County district attorney, is known for his progressive views and criminal justice reform policies. He was elected in 2020, and his time in office has been quite tumultuous. Many have criticized the policies he implemented, which many have cited as the reason behind an increase in crime in Los Angeles County. Resentment against him has led to three recall efforts in the country, all of which have failed, the latest occurring in 2022.

In 2024, the Soros-funded DA’s latest controversy involves a lawsuit from the Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County, Shea Sanna. In the lawsuit, Sanna claimed he was targeted for exposing the misconduct within Gascón’s office. Dhillon Law Group filed the lawsuit on Aug. 12 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. 

“Dhillon Law Group Inc., representing Deputy District Attorney Shea Sanna, has filed a complaint against the County of Los Angeles and District Attorney George Gascón, based upon DA Gascón’s extensive retaliation campaign against Sanna for reporting unlawful and unethical conduct to his supervisors and the public,” read a press release.

“This litigation arises from Sanna’s efforts to uphold his legal and ethical duties despite significant opposition from DA Gascón and his administration,” read the press release.

“For the past two years, Gascon has tried to silence me,” Sanna said in a released statement. “He has suspended me without pay, threatened my livelihood, attacked my credibility, tarnished my reputation, demoted me, investigated me, and harassed me, all so I would obey him; so I would stay quiet; so I wouldn’t speak up on behalf of those most affected by his misguided political policies.”

Sanna’s lawsuit stems from his work on a high-profile case involving a convicted sex offender named James Tubbs, according to Dhillon Law. He claimed he faced “retaliatory actions” in Gascón’s office after filing a report accusing the Soros-funded DA’s office of participating in unethical practices. Additionally, Sanna contended that Gascón ordered him to engage in unlawful directives. 

According to the lawsuit, Gascón and people in his office pressured Sanna to “suppress critical information and subsequently retaliating against him when he refused to comply.” Sanna also accused Gascón’s office of suppressing evidence and a release of confidential records. The lawsuit also claimed that Sanna’s efforts to report these issues resulted in “sham investigations, suspensions, and other retaliatory actions orchestrated by Gascón’s office.” Sanna also said that he was reprimanded for presenting evidence in the case that went against the official position of Gascón.

“In the Tubbs case, Deputy District Attorney Shea Sanna did nothing but seek to uphold his ethical and legal duties to present all relevant evidence to the court. Yet because this evidence conflicted with D.A. Gascon’s recently enacted policies and public statements, Gascon sought to suppress it,” said Anthony Fusaro, an attorney at Dhillon Law Group. “When Mr. Sanna informed his supervisors and the public of Gascon’s suppression efforts, Gascon responded with a relentless retaliation campaign against Mr. Sanna that persists to this day.”
