Los Angeles Restaurant Stops Accepting Cash Due to Crime
Despite the delusional State of the Union speech this week, the crime rate has not fallen significantly despite the President’s claims. This is particularly true in California’s major cities, including Los Angeles. Robberies are quite common in California, and one restaurant owner decided to make a change. Sherman Oaks restaurant owner decided not to accept cash from customers. The thieves targeted her restaurant for cash smash and grabs.
Brianna Valdez, the owner of HomeState, says she doesn’t want to dissuade customers who don’t have plastic or virtual wallets from dining at her restaurant, but feels removing the bait is the only way to keep her staff safe.
“Its important for us to remain part of the community, that serves the whole community. And today we made a really difficult decision,” said Valdez. “(We want to) rebuild that confidence for the team today to make that decision, is to remove the bait for the burglers.”
The Homestate Restaurant, located in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, opened its doors last July. The restaurant was robbed in the six months that it has been open. Seven times. Thieves have shown up with sledgehammers, smashing through the glass doors and attempting to crack open the business’ safe. Brianna Valdez is fed up.
The decision caused some controversy among community activists. By refusing to accept cash payments, she is effectively cutting off people who either don’t qualify for a credit card or who choose not to use one. Valdez knows that this disproportionately impacts lower-income families.
However, residents of the community can raise concerns about this matter to the Governor or Mayor. Homestate wouldn’t be forced to make a decision like this if the crime rates weren’t so high. Every time they are robbed, the owner’s insurance rates go up. Restaurants have already been operating on very small margins to be competitive.
Homestate had to choose between cash transactions ending or closing down. Similar decisions were made by other businesses. Multiple Walgreens pharmacies have opened in California. shut down They were being robbed so many times. Fast food outlets were robbed so often. Shuttering Some of their operations are located in the Golden State because of the same reason.
There is an option if people want these businesses in business to continue to provide goods and services to their community. But it doesn’t involve protesting outside of a restaurant. Stop releasing criminals immediately after they are arrested and put more police on the streets. If there are again serious consequences for their actions, the other criminals will quickly get the message. Alternatively, California can keep following the same woke policies they’ve been adopting and simply wait until nobody is willing to open a business in the state. Let us know what happens.
