Louisiana Republican Sen. Kennedy Passes on Bid for Governor

Louisiana GOP Sen. John Kennedy states he will not run for guv this fall, putting Republican Attorney General Of The United States Jeff Landry as the most likely GOP front-runner for the post.

“I have looked into my heart and decided to remain in the Senate and not to run for governor,” Kennedy stated in an e-mail, the Lafayette Daily Advertiser reported Wednesday.

“I just think I can help my state and my country more in the Senate,” composed Kennedy, who in 2015 won reelection with more than 60% of the vote.

With incumbent Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards disqualified to run for a third-consecutive term, Landry is the just significant prospect to formally have actually revealed his project for guv.

Other Republican politicians might reveal their candidateships quickly.

GOP Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser stated he will reveal on Jan. 10 his objectives to run. On Wednesday he launched a survey he commissioned revealing himself as leading Landry in the gubernatorial race at 23% to 22%.

Republican Treasurer John Schroder is set up to reveal his prepare for the guv’s race on Jan. 12. He formerly stated he would just run if Kennedy did not.
