‘Macon Bacon’ shuts down activist doctor’s demand for name change.

Macon Bacon: Bacon Yesterday, Bacon Today, Bacon Forever

The Georgia-based collegiate summer league baseball team, Macon Bacon, is standing firm in the face of criticism. Recently, they received a letter from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, urging them to stop the “glorification of bacon.” But the team’s response was clear: “Bacon Yesterday. Bacon Today. Bacon Tomorrow. Bacon Forever.”

The controversy began when the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine put up a billboard targeting Macon Bacon fans, urging them to stop eating bacon. They also sent a letter to Brandon Raphael, the president of Macon Bacon, expressing their concerns about the team’s name. The letter argued that the glorification of bacon, a processed meat linked to health risks, sends the wrong message to fans.

However, Macon Bacon is not backing down. Initially, Brandon Raphael thought the letter was a joke, but upon realizing its seriousness, he decided to address the issue. He emphasized that the team’s name was chosen by fans in 2018 and that it reflects the strong community connection they have. Raphael stated, “We’re not interested in changing our name for anybody because we are the Macon Bacon, and we are the team of the community here.”

The Macon Bacon team plays in the West Division of the Coastal Plain League, a wood-bat amateur summer league. To be part of the league, players must have played at least one season of college baseball and still have one season of college eligibility remaining.

So, despite the controversy, Macon Bacon remains committed to their name and their love for bacon. As they proudly declare, Bacon Yesterday, Bacon Today, Bacon Forever!
