Maine Mom Sues School Board For Hiding Her Child’s “Gender Transition”

A mother in Maine is taking legal action against her local school board for not informing her that her daughter had transitioned genders. Amber Lavigne found a chest binder, an undergarment used to flatten breasts, in her daughter’s belongings. She later discovered that a school social worker had given the binder to her daughter and was providing counseling regarding the gender transition. The social worker had kept Lavigne in the dark and told her daughter not to inform her parents of the transition. Lavigne’s daughter was also referred to by the school using male names and pronouns.

After Lavigne contacted the school administrators, they attempted to justify the counselor’s actions and continued to use male pronouns for her daughter. The Goldwater Institute, which is a conservative advocacy group, is now suing the Great Salt Bay Community School Board, the counselor, and other school officials on Lavigne’s behalf. The institute had previously requested the school board to investigate and adopt a policy to notify parents when decisions affecting their child’s physical or mental health are made, but they chose not to do so.

The Goldwater Institute’s lead attorney, Adam Shelton, stated that “the Supreme Court has repeatedly held, over the last century, that parents have a fundamental right to control and direct the education, upbringing, and healthcare decisions of their children. But parents cannot meaningfully exercise this right if public schools hide vital information about their children from them — which is exactly what the Great Salt Bay Community School did to Ms. Lavigne.”

Instances like these, where schools disregard parental rights, are increasing. As radical gender ideology becomes more mainstream, and activist teachers aim to brainwash their students, many schools across the US are withholding important information from parents about their children. The Goldwater Institute is also fighting for the rights of parents to have access to the content their children are being taught in schools, including trans propaganda, sexual perversion, and critical race theory.
