Manhunt ongoing in Maine as shelter-in-place order lifted.

Law enforcement ends shelter-in-place‌ order as ⁢manhunt for suspected mass shooter continues

The town of Lewiston, Maine, can breathe a sigh of relief as law enforcement has finally lifted the shelter-in-place order. However, the manhunt for⁢ suspected mass shooter Robert Card‍ is far from ‌over.

This decision comes after Card allegedly‍ committed⁣ a horrifying act, shooting and killing ‌18 people at two different locations in the town. The authorities have urged the public‌ to remain vigilant during this time.

Remaining vigilant ⁤and cautious

Mike‍ Sauschuck, commissioner for the Maine Department of Public Safety, ⁤addressed the public at a press conference on Friday evening. ⁣He explained the ⁣careful ‌consideration⁤ that went⁢ into the decision‍ to lift the ⁣shelter-in-place order.

“The ⁤decision to release that, or rescind that, ‌shelter-in-place order is something that we’ve discussed internally as command‌ staff members at the CP and saying OK, we’re looking at pros ‍and cons. We’ve got communities‌ that are locked down, that are shut down, there are families and schools and pharmacies and all those things,” Sauschuck‌ said.

While acknowledging⁢ the negative impact of the order ‍on people’s‌ lives, ⁤Sauschuck emphasized the importance of taking the threats seriously.

“So we knew going in ‍and have acknowledged that repeatedly that we‌ know⁢ that that ⁢can ‍have a negative impact on people. So the other ‌side of that is⁤ we had‍ very‍ pointed threats early on in reference to these locations, ⁢and nothing specific since then.”

Despite the lifting of the order, ⁤Sauschuck ‌stressed that the manhunt is still a dangerous situation. He urged the public to listen to law enforcement⁤ and remain cautious.

“While this is still absolutely a dangerous situation without question, we’ve got to make recommendations and ask the people that we serve as the people that we protect, to be vigilant, to pay attention, to listen to what we have to say,” he said.

Victims’ identities ⁢confirmed

Sauschuck also confirmed the ⁤identities of the 18 victims who tragically lost their lives in the shooting. Their names are Ronald Morin, Peyton Brewer-Ross, ⁣Joshua Seal, Brian MacFarlane, Joseph Lawrence Walker, Arthur ‌Fred‌ Strout, Maxx Hathaway,⁣ Stephen Vozella, Thomas Ryan Conrad, Michael R. Deslaurier II, Jason Adam Walker, Trisha Asselin, William Young, Aaron Young, Robert Violette, ‌Lucille Violette,‍ William Frank Bracket, and Keith McNair.

It was later reported by CNN that ⁢Card had legally purchased the weapon used ⁤in the ‍shooting. He had previously been hospitalized⁣ for mental health reasons ⁤over the summer, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

Card remains at large, and the search for him will continue. The next update ‌from law enforcement is scheduled for‌ 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Hat has an impact on their daily lives. And so we need to weigh‍ that against the potential threat that this individual poses,” said⁤ Sauschuck.
