Big Republican Name Emerges as Potential Late Entry in 2024 Shake-up.

The ‌Second GOP Presidential Primary Debate: Underwhelming and ⁢Chaotic

The second GOP presidential primary debate ⁣on Wednesday was anything but impressive. There were no standout candidates, and the atmosphere felt more like a competition for the ‌best ⁢attack line rather ⁤than a discussion of⁤ policy solutions.

The constant interruptions and talking⁣ over each other ⁤made it difficult to follow the ⁢debate and understand what was really happening.

The only clear ‌outcome of the debate‌ was‍ that support for former President Trump actually increased. A poll taken the day after the debate by⁤ Morning Consult,⁤ a company that tracks the⁣ national ratings of‌ elected leaders, shows a five-point increase ⁤for the former president, with 63 percent of potential GOP voters now supporting him, up‍ from 58 percent on Monday.

In ⁤the midst of this ⁤chaos, some anti-Trump Republicans ‍are desperately searching for another candidate to challenge Trump in the primaries.

According to reports, they may be turning to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin as their⁤ potential candidate.

Youngkin ⁢gained prominence in the Republican party when he defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the governor’s race in ⁤a ⁢state that President Joe Biden ‌had won by 10⁣ points. His victory was attributed⁣ to his stance on parental rights ⁢and culture ‍wars.

The “Red Vest Retreat,” a ‌closed gathering of⁢ major Republican donors, is planning to meet in October to rally behind Gov. Glenn‍ Youngkin. While the event is officially focused on winning control of the Virginia General‍ Assembly, it is unofficially being⁣ used⁣ as an opportunity to push Youngkin into the ⁢Republican presidential race.

Youngkin’s potential run is seen as a ‍last-minute addition to the presidential race, ⁣as donors⁣ and⁤ anti-Trump Republicans are‌ considering ways to support and⁢ prepare for a national campaign.

This desperate push for a new candidate reflects the powerlessness many Republicans ⁣feel as Trump continues to dominate the field, disregarding criminal indictments and concerns‌ over his rhetoric.

According to ⁤the Washington Post, former United States Attorney General William “Bill” Barr and Rupert Murdoch, chairman emeritus‍ of⁢ Fox Corporation and News‍ Corp, are quietly supporting a potential ‍Youngkin bid.

Youngkin himself is keeping his options ‍open, using the term “optionality” to describe his approach.

In an appearance on ‍CBS ‍News, ‌it was mentioned that Youngkin didn’t explicitly rule out ⁢a presidential run, leaving the door open for speculation.

However, Youngkin has⁤ concerns about potential attacks from Trump⁢ if he ⁤decides ⁢to join the race.

A late entry into the race⁢ could further add chaos to an already crowded ⁣GOP primary field, making it even⁢ more difficult for those not already committed to‍ Trump to make a‌ choice.

It appears to be a Hail Mary from a minority‌ within the ⁢Republican⁣ party who are⁢ desperate to see Trump out of power, even ⁢if it means risking the general election.

A Washington Post-ABC⁣ poll released on September⁤ 24 ‌showed‍ Biden ⁤trailing‌ Trump by a significant 10‌ percentage points.

With such ‍margins, it’s questionable why genuine‍ Republicans⁤ would want to ‌introduce an unknown candidate ‍into the ‌mix, unless there are personal reasons behind it.

It seems more likely ⁤that an additional candidate‍ would only dilute the already weak support for candidates like ‍DeSantis, ‍who‍ is currently in second place.

At this point, Trump appears to⁢ be untouchable.
