Major competitor fully embraces LGBT ‘Pride’ and commits to long-term support
Molson Coors Vows to Sponsor LGBT Events “For Decades to Come”
Molson Coors, the Chicago-based company that owns the Miller and Coors brands of beers, has made a bold commitment to sponsor LGBT events for the long term.
The disclosure comes amidst a nationwide boycott of Bud Light from conservatives over the brand’s previous partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
Molson Coors brands, such as Miller and Coors, have benefited from the decline in sales of Bud Light and other AB InBev products.
Despite this, the company is once again sponsoring this year’s annual LGBT “pride” events in Denver, which are set to take place this coming weekend.
The 2023 Coors Light Denver Pride Parade
The highlight of the weekend is the 2023 Coors Light Denver Pride Parade, scheduled for Sunday in the city’s downtown area. This 14-block parade, sponsored by the brewer, will kick off at 9:30 a.m. local time.
Molson Coors does not seem concerned about facing a backlash similar to that experienced by AB InBev.
When asked for comment on their decision to sponsor the events in Denver, the company told Axios that they have been sponsoring the event for decades and plan to continue doing so for decades to come.
A group called Denver Pride, which organizes all the events, has dedicated an entire page on its website to Molson Coors.
Molson Coors spokesman Michael Nordman expressed the company’s unwavering commitment to sponsoring the LGBT group, stating, “Our Pride runs mile high, so we are excited to support the Center’s vital programs and services that positively impact the LGBTQ+ community.”
Denver Pride also highlights that Molson Coors has earned a perfect 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, which measures companies’ internal LGBTQ+ policies and external practices.
Other sponsors of Denver “pride” events scheduled for the weekend include AARP, Nissan, JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, Visa, Walmart, and Wells Fargo.
The above companies are sponsoring various events, including the “Denver Dyke March & Rally” and the “Youth Alley PrideFest Schedule” for children, both taking place on Saturday.
Bud Light, once America’s best-selling beer, lost its top spot to Modelo earlier this month due to the ongoing boycott. AB InBev suffered significant losses in market cap value following its decision to partner with Mulvaney on social media.
