Major Winter Storm Brings Heavy Snow to Parts of Ontario, Causes Flight Cancellations
Southern Ontario was hit hard by a winter storm that dumped snow and strong winds. Thunder, lightning, and other effects were reported.
Haizhen Sun, a meteorologist for Environment Canada says that snowfall in the Greater Toronto Area was between 22-30 centimetres as of today at 6:05 a.m. The city of Toronto declared a snow emergency. “major snowstorm condition” Residents are prohibited from parking along designated roads for three consecutive days.
Ottawa saw 14cm of snow while Hamilton received 15cm.
Environment Canada removed snowfall warnings and winter storm warnings from several regions that were hard hit early Saturday morning. The snow will likely to recede by afternoon.
Many flights into and out of Toronto’s Pearson International Airport were affected by delays or cancellations late Friday and early Saturday. The airlines advised customers to confirm their flight status prior to departing for Toronto and Ottawa.
Tori Grass of Greater Toronto Airports Authority says that although conditions are improving at Pearson airport, there was a significant amount of snow in a relatively short time.
