The poll also revealed that 55 percent of voters view the influx of migrants seeking sanctuary in the United States as a crisis, while 31 percent consider it a problem but not a crisis. Only 11 percent do not see it as a problem at all.
When it comes to welcoming migrants seeking sanctuary in their communities, 31 percent of voters are open to it. Another 37 percent would like to welcome them but believe their communities cannot accommodate them. On the other hand, 27 percent are opposed to welcoming migrants into their communities.
The poll, conducted from October 12 to 16, surveyed 1,552 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
Last week, a Fox News poll also showed similar results, with an even higher number of Americans (57 percent) in favor of building a border wall. The poll revealed that 70 percent of voters believe the current level of border security is not strict enough, and the same percentage believes the country’s immigration system has been broken for decades.These latest findings contrast with past polls where the majority of Americans opposed the construction of a border wall. The new barriers will be built in areas with high illegal entry rates, such as the Rio Grande Valley Sector and various tracts within the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Secretary Mayorkas issued the waiver after U.S. Border Patrol figures revealed that over 245,000 migrants had illegally crossed the border in Starr County since early August.DHS plans to fund the construction project using appropriations allocated by Congress during the Trump administration in 2019.
Since taking office, President Biden halted ongoing construction on the border wall, which has resulted in unused materials lying along the border and estimated costs of at least $72 million.
