Most Americans fear Israel-Hamas conflict may cause terrorism in the US: Survey.
Concerns Rise Over Potential Terrorism as Israel-Hamas Conflict Escalates
A recent poll conducted by CNN reveals that a majority of residents in the United States are expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The fear of potential terrorism on domestic soil is palpable, with 66% of respondents expressing worry.
However, certain demographics are even more alarmed. Among U.S. residents aged 65 and older, a staggering 75% expressed heightened concern. Similarly, 72% of women and 76% of Republicans share these anxieties.
Public Opinion on Israeli Government’s Response
When asked about the Israeli government’s military response to the Hamas attacks, opinions were divided. 50% of respondents believed the response was fully justified, while 20% considered it partially justified. On the other hand, 8% believed the military’s response was not justified at all, and 21% were unsure.
Doubts Surrounding President Biden’s Handling of the Crisis
Interestingly, many respondents expressed doubt regarding President Joe Biden’s ability to effectively respond to the crisis in Israel. Only 16% of those surveyed had a great deal of trust in the president’s decision-making. 31% trusted him moderately, while 26% had little trust, and 28% had no trust in Biden at all.
The poll, conducted from Thursday through Friday, surveyed a random national sample of 1,003 adults. The margin of error was +/-4%.

Efforts to Bring U.S. Citizens Home
Amidst the concerns of U.S. civilians trapped in the conflict, Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) has been actively working to bring them back home. Taking to social media, he shared that a recent rescue mission successfully brought home 96 citizens. Additionally, he announced that he has secured a charter aircraft capable of accommodating 218 passengers.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan, in an interview with CNN’s State of the Union, revealed that the U.S. has requested Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to open the border and allow U.S. citizens to flee the Gaza Strip. However, the situation at the Rafah crossing, the sole passage point between Egypt and Gaza, is proving to be “more complicated” due to Hamas preventing the transportation of U.S. civilians.
What factors in the recent escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict have raised concerns about possible terrorist attacks on Western targets?
Ering 78% voiced their fears of potential terrorist attacks. This age group, often referred to as the baby boomers, has experienced previous acts of terrorism such as the September 11 attacks, making them more susceptible to concerns over national security.
The Israel-Hamas conflict has been ongoing for many years, with intermittent periods of escalation and violence. However, the recent escalation in hostilities has raised global concern due to the increased intensity of the attacks and the potential for even further escalation. As the conflict intensifies, so does the fear that terrorist organizations may take advantage of the situation to carry out attacks against Western targets.
One of the main concerns among U.S. residents is the fear of acts of terror being carried out on American soil. With high-profile attacks such as the Boston Marathon bombing and the San Bernardino shooting still fresh in the public’s memory, the idea of another terrorist attack looms large. The conflict between Israel and Hamas provides a potential motivation for radicalized individuals to carry out acts of violence in the name of their cause.
In addition to domestic terrorism, there is also concern over the potential for attacks against American interests abroad. U.S. embassies and military bases in the Middle East and other regions have long been targets for terrorist organizations. The escalation in the Israel-Hamas conflict further raises the risk of attacks against these targets, especially if the conflict spreads beyond the borders of Israel and Gaza.
The concern over potential terrorism in relation to the Israel-Hamas conflict is not limited to the United States. Countries around the world, particularly those with a significant Jewish population or with historical ties to the region, are also on high alert. Heightened security measures have been implemented in many Western countries to mitigate the risk of terrorist attacks.
The international community has a vested interest in finding a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Hamas conflict in order to diminish the potential for terrorism. A lasting peace agreement between the two parties would not only bring an end to the violence but also reduce the incentive for radicalized individuals to pursue acts of terror.
Efforts are underway to de-escalate the hostilities and broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. International mediators, including the United States, are working tirelessly to encourage dialogue and find common ground. Additionally, there have been calls for increased humanitarian aid to help alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict.
While the path to peace may be challenging, it is crucial to address the concerns over potential terrorism. The fear and anxiety expressed by the majority of U.S. residents and other communities around the world should serve as a reminder of the importance of a swift and peaceful resolution to the Israel-Hamas conflict. By prioritizing a peaceful resolution, we can not only bring an end to the immediate violence but also minimize the risk of further acts of terror on both domestic and international fronts.
