A recent Rasmussen Reports survey indicates that a majority of likely voters believe that if the 22nd Amendment— which currently limits U.S. presidents to two terms— were changed, Donald Trump would likely win a third term in 2028. The survey found that 53% of respondents thought it likely he would be reelected, with 39% of Democrats agreeing. The report highlighted that while legislation has been proposed to modify the amendment, resistance remains strong, as 59% of participants opposed repealing it. In contrast, only 35% would support such a change, although a slim majority of Republicans favored it. This poll result suggests that Trump’s potential candidacy in 2028 is a topic of significant concern,despite the general wariness around altering constitutional limits.

The newest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets on Wednesday just did, and it’s pretty much what the 47th president would like to hear.
While the nation continues to approach amending the Constitution with extreme caution, most agree that if the 22nd Amendment were to be eliminated or adjusted to allow for more than two terms, Trump would slide in with ease in 2028.
Rasmussen asked likely voters, “If the 22nd Amendment were to be repealed, how likely is it that President Donald Trump would be reelected to a third term?”
Fifty-three percent said it is likely he would win, and 35% said he wouldn’t. And of those who said he would get a third term, 32% said it would be “very likely,” the most positive outlook.
Republicans and conservatives cheered the most at over 70%. But even 39% of Democrats said Trump would likely win.
Legislation has been introduced to change the 22nd Amendment, though it is unlikely to move forward.
Democrats haven’t figured out yet who might run for president in 2028, but former Vice President Kamala Harris remains the poll leader.
Significantly, the 53% who said it was likely Trump would get a third term is higher than his 49.9% vote total against Harris last November.

But to get to a third term, the nation would have to agree to change the 22nd Amendment’s term limits, and the poll found that would be unlikely.
Asked if they would approve of repealing the amendment, 59% said no, and 35% would approve of the change. A bare majority of 52% of Republicans would approve of the change, and 70% of Democrats would fight it.
